Constitui exemplo paradigmático dos artistas viajantes, repórteres de acontecimentos, ambientes e costumes que, numa cadência aventureira, cruzavam a Europa no período conturbado do final do século XVIII. Visitou recorrentemente Portugal, tendo mesmo integrado o exército britânico. Esta é a sua obra mais conhecida, e demonstra a sua admiração pelo herói da Guerra Peninsular. As estampas que, por indicação da imprensa, parecem ter saído avulsas, são águas-tinta do próprio l’Évêque e de Bartolozzi, Heath, Vendramini, Filter Comte e Schiavonetti.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e[EN] 58x43 cm. This copy does not have the set of four loose prints that were part of the edition and are still present in some copies. They are followed by 19 folios with the 18 engravings with the above-mentioned description, plus a map with the scheme of action of the Battle of Vigia de la Barrosa, which is not listed in the previous descriptions. The translation is the responsibility of Maria Helena Rodrigues de Carvalho.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis work by L´Éveque, doubly illustrates (in text and engraving) a crucial period of our history, the French invasions and the consequent Peninsular War, and the actions of the Anglo-Portuguese army, in one of the periods when the old Anglo-Portuguese Alliance functioned most effectively.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eHenri l’Évêque (Geneva, 1769 - Rome, 1832) was an engraver and landscape painter who visited Portugal several times and even served in the British army. This is his best-known work and it shows his admiration for the hero of the Peninsular War.
