Entre 1523 e 1533 foi secretário da Feitoria Portuguesa em Antuérpia. A partir desta data, dedica-se aos seus trabalhos históricos e literários, convivendo e correspondendo-se com diversos humanistas, entre os quais Erasmo de Roterdão e Pietro Bembo. Em 1548 assumiu o cargo de guarda-mor da Torre do Tombo. Em 1571 foi vítima de um processo da Inquisição, chegando a ser preso. Está sepultado na Igreja de Santa Maria da Várzea em Alenquer. A maior parte das suas obras latinas foram publicadas fora de Portugal, tendo sido objecto de numerosas re-edições.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e[EN] Chronicle of His Highness King D. Between 1523 and 1533 we was secretary of the Portuguese Trading post in Antwerp. From this date he dedicates to his historical and literary works, exchanging letters with several humanists, among them Erasmus of Rotherdam and Pietro Bembo. In 1548 he was nominated Chief Librarian at Torre do Tombo (Portuguese archives officially existing since 1378). In 1751 was arrested by the Inquisition. He died in 1574, presumably murdered, and he is buried in the Church of Santa Maria da Várzea in Alenquer.
