Esta obra conheceu a primeira edição impressa em 1585 pelas mãos de Manuel de Lira, sendo as seguintes publicadas em 1590, 1594 e a última de 1602.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eEste trabalho tem um considerável interesse científico, dado ser um dos mais antigos almanaques a descrever o novo calendário gregoriano, adoptado apenas uma década antes da primeira aparição deste trabalho (1593). Avellar dá uma explicação completa do sistema de epactas (número de dias que se juntam ao ano lunar para o tornar igual ao ano solar) que é essencial para a compreensão do novo calendário. O calendário não foi completamente explicado até Clavius publicar o seu tratado monumental em 1603.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAndré de Avellar, professor de matemática da Universidade de Coimbra, foi o mais notável sucessor Português de Pedro Nunes.
