Anselmo 503. This edition was included in the Index Proibitorum published in 1624 and ordered to be expunged accordingly. There are some copies of this edition that have two more folios at the end with the printer's notice and errata, which were possibly added in a possible second print run or added to the copies that remained in the publisher's shop.

Obra publicada no mesmo ano da primeira edição de Os Lusíadas, which influenced a similar treatise by Juan Mariana (1537-1624) and had successive editions in Cologne, 1572, 1574 and 1614, and Paris, 1583, and is considered one of the main books of the Renaissance. According to a summary by Nair Nazaré de Castro Soares, in her doctoral thesis on this work, "De regis institutione et disciplina, dedicated in 1572 to King Sebastião, follows the ethical-legal norms of Aristotelian-Thomist theorising, imbued with Plato's ethical idealism - a synthesis worthy of a Cicero. Wouldn't the famous bishop of Silves have been called, above all for the colour and vigour of his limpid and rhythmic phrasing, the Portuguese Cicero! This is why the work of this author, a humanist who was co-responsible for leading the republic and guiding its prince, became the paradigmatic model of the ideal prince in the golden age of our history. In short, the De regis institutione et disciplina, a true mirror of the social and political realities of the time, it reveals to us the dimension of the aesthetic-ideological humanism of an author representative of an era, his conception of the ideal prince and his way of looking at the problem of man as a social and political being and as a person, in his finitude and transcendence."

Anselmo 503. He died in Tavira on 20 August 1580, at the age of 74, if we are to go by Barbosa's accounts, who nevertheless seems to have made some mistakes in this area to the point where the dates of the first quarter of the life of this distinguished man and most learned prelate are irreconcilable with each other.

The works of Jeronymo Osorio, on which his fame as a writer is based, and for which he is generally known and appreciated in the literary world, are all in the Latin language.
