Humanista, jurista e político francês, foi um dos mais destacados representantes da Renascença em França. Desempenhou as funções de Juge-Châtelain em Fontenay le Comte e Lieutenant-général du Sénéchal du Poitou, na mesma cidade. Em 1531, foi nomeado Conselheiro do Parlamento de Paris. Entre 1552 e 1553 realizou uma viagem a Roma. Estabeleceu um círculo de amizade e estudos com os mais célebres juristas da época, tais como: Charles DuMoulin, Michel de l\"Hospital, Christofle de Thou, Guillaume Budé e François Rabelais, que foi influemciado pelas suas obras. É autor de uma vasta e influente obra em que se destacam os dois trabalhos publicadas na presente edição. As suas obras completas foram editadas reunidas em 5 volumes, em 1574, 1584 e depois em 7 volumes em Frankfurt, no ano de 1597 e em 1615. Tratam temas do Direito Romano e do direito Canónico, assim como o direito costumeiro de França e a jurisprudência dos tribunais, com métodos próprios do humanismo, sem, no entanto, romper completamente com as técnicas medievais de jurisprudência.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eOs Arquivos do Departamento da Vendeia conservam um extenso conjunto documental sobre o jurisconsulto e a sua numerosa descendência.
