Estudou na Universidade de Ã‰vora e no ano de 1653 Ã© ordenado sacerdote. Em 1654 o Padre Bartolomeu de Quental Ã© nomeado pelo rei D. JoÃ£o IV nas funÃ§Ãµes de capelÃ£o, confessor e pregador da Capela Real. Com o apoio de D. LuÃ­sa de GusmÃ£o cria as bases para a CongregaÃ§Ã£o do OratÃ³rio, atravÃ©s da constituiÃ§Ã£o de uma congregaÃ§Ã£o de sacerdotes consagrada Ã  Virgem Maria. Como missionÃ¡rio esteve presente na CongregaÃ§Ã£o do OratÃ³rio de Pernambuco e em Goa. He studied at the University of Ã‰vora and in 1653 was ordained priest. In 1654 King JoÃ£o IV nominates Father Bartolomeu de Quental as chaplain, confessor and preacher of the Royal Chapel. With the support of the Queen, D. LuÃ­sa de GusmÃ£o, creates the basis for the Congregation of the Oratory by joining o group of priests devoted to the Virgin Mary. As a missionary he was at the Congregation of the Oratory in Pernambuco (Brazil) and in Goa (India).
