Foram posteriormente retirados de Alcobaça para a Biblioteca Real ou nacional de Lisboa após 1833. O Mosteiro de Alcobaça era a residência dos reis da primeira dinastia e a sua biblioteca também era o seu arquivo de onde proveio uma das mais importantes fontes da história de Portugal. Além da desccrição dos Códices (477 manuscritos na sua totalidade), apresenta-se um índice dos autores (incluindo uma secção daqueles desconhecidos ou com data incerta); e ainda um índice alfabético final.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eInocêncio diz que se atribui a composição deste index a Fr. Francisco de Sá, monge de Alcobaça. Vários códices dos que vêm mencionados no Index foram posteriormente dados à estampa por Fr. Fortunato de S. Boaventura.
