They were later taken from Alcobaça to the Royal or National Library of Lisbon after 1833. The Monastery of Alcobaça was the residence of the kings of the first dynasty, and its library was also its archive, from which became one of the most important sources of Portuguese history. In addition to the description of the Codices (477 manuscripts in total), there is an index of the authors (including a section of those unknown or of uncertain date); and also a final alphabetical index.

Inocêncio says that the composition of this index is attributed to Fr. Francisco de Sá, monk of Alcobaça. Several of the codices mentioned in the Index were later given to the print by Fr. Fortunato de S. Boaventura. He also states that many of those codices are nowadays collected in the National Library of Lisbon, escaping the plunder that devastated the rest, alongside other treasures of the monastery of Alcobaça, the loss of which is, and will always be, regrettable.

Referências/References:

Inocêncio I, xlvi, III, 44, III, 218 e IV, 57.
