Folhas de guarda em papel de fantasia.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eÉ uma contrafação da 2ª edição desta obra que foi inicialmente publicada aos sábados em fascículos com periodicidade semanal entre os anos de 1778 e 1779 e dos quais não se conhece qualquer exemplar nos nossos dias.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eSeguiu-se a primeira edição em livro em 1779, impressa em França falsamente como se fosse em 'Londres', tal como esta edição. É muito rara, com apenas alguns exemplares conhecidos em instituições e nenhum exemplar dessa ou da presente edição em registos de leilões nos últimos trinta anos.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eA presente contrafação não está catalogada na BNF. Apresenta um V manuscrito a seguir à data em numeração romana.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eA BNF tem dois exemplares catalogados com uma ligeira variante na folha de rosto: «ouvrage destiné à servir de suite à \u003cem\u003el\"Espion chinois\u003c\/em\u003e du même auteur», e com a menção de ser uma 2ª edição.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eO autor apresenta reflexões em tom irónico e mesmo burlesco sobre a política, os costumes, a literatura, o comércio, a banca, a economia, a música, a dança, refere anedotas ingleses e resume a partir dos jornais ingleses os acontecimentos da Guerra Franco-Inglesa e dos jornais franceses a polémica entre o Cavaleiro de Eon e Beaumarchais, com comentários satíricos, por outro lado avalia a imprensa inglesa e refere muitas vezes Voltaire.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003ePierre Ange Goudar (Montpellier 1708 - depois de 1791). Aventureiro e escritor francês, jornalista, agente do governo francês, foi amigo de Casanova e percorreu toda a Europa e chegou muitas vezes a ter como meio de vida o jogo e a exploração da prostituição. Entre outras missões oficiais esteve em Portugal de 1752 a 1754, para obter informações comerciais, o que hoje se chamaria espionagem industrial, para facilitar uma intervenção da França que combatesse a influência económica inglesa. Goudar nas folhas de rosto de algumas das suas obras posteriores atribui-se o título de Cavaleiro da Ordem de Cristo. It is very rare, with only a few known copies in institutions and no copies of that or the present edition on auction records in the last thirty years.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe present counterfeit is not catalogued in the BNF (French National Library). It bears a handwritten V after the date in Roman numerals.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe BNF has two catalogued copies with a slight variant on the title page: 'ouvrage destiné à servir de suite à \u003cem\u003el\"Espion chinois\u003c\/em\u003e du même auteur', and with the mention of being a 2nd edition.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe author presents reflections in an ironic and even burlesque tone on politics, customs, literature, commerce, banking, economics, music, dancing, refers to English anecdotes and summarises from English newspapers the events of the Franco-English War and from French newspapers the controversy between the Chevalier d’Eon and Beaumarchais, with satirical comments. On the other hand he evaluates the English press and often refers to Voltaire.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003ePierre Ange Goudar (Montpellier 1708 - after 1791). French adventurer and writer, journalist, agent of the French government, was a friend of Casanova and travelled all over Europe and often made a living out of gambling and exploiting prostitution. Among other official missions he was in Portugal from 1752 to 1754, to obtain commercial information, what today would be called industrial espionage, to facilitate a French intervention to combat English economic influence. Goudar on the title pages of some of his later works awards himself the title of Knight of the Order of Christ.
