Foi em 1854 com precedencia de concurso nomeado lente da cadeira de physica do Instituto Industrial de Lisboa. Teve a graduaÃ§Ã£o de capitÃ£o-tenente da armada, e foi agraciado com o grau de cavalleiro da Ordem de Christo em 1862, e com o de commendador em 1867, cavalleiro da Ordem de S. Tiago, e socio correspondente da Academia Real das Sciencias de Lisboa desde 1866.
